Q. I already know what I want, Why do I need an Architect?
A. That's good you have thought about your "needs and wants" but are you sure you have thought of everything? An Architect knows how to listen to your project needs and help you make them become a reality. He/She can add suggestions you may have not thought of or thought were actually not possible. Ideas are a "dime a dozen" everyone has one and they all think they are right. The question that you need to ask yourself is "Have you thought of everything and are you sure it will work?" An Architect can help you with this. He can't solve the meaning of Life, though some may think they can, but He/She will guide you through the "Woods" of design to the clearing beyond of successful projects.

Q. I've never done this before how does this work?
A. First you need to stop and sit down with an Architect before you talk to anyone. The Architect will help you develop a strategy to gain all the information and procedures you'll need. They know the procedures for designing your project and will help to understand the rules and regulations in your town so the project moves smoothly. Q. I'm a contractor and I know how to build , I've been doing this for 25 years why do I need an Architect, he just gets in the way?
A. I'm sure you are the most talented contractor ever and you know all there is to know about building. Architects train for many years to find out what works and what doesn't. Their primary goal and job is to protect the health, safety and welfare of all, that includes you the contractor not to mention the Owner of the project. Most if not all States require a licensed Professional to direct the design of a building project to ensure the Owner and the inhabitants of the building will be reasonably safe while using the building. The only licensed Professionals available for this are Architects and Engineers. |
Q. I went to the Township or Borough's Construction office and asked for a permit and they said I need a plan. I had a sketch but he said it wasn't correct, Why?
A. When the Building Official says you need a Plan, that is code for, hire a professional. This means an Architect. Q. What do Architects do?
A. Architects design space for people to Live, Work, Play and Worship in. They do not draw drawings for a living. The drawings you get from an Architect are a means of communication illustrating the consultation they give you regarding your project. They are instruments of their service that are used by many people in the building process so they may know what is going to happen and what to do. Architects design and direct, Builders build. There are Design Builders but usually an Architect or Engineer is the owner of the business and performs the same task of design except they build it as well. One thing, Architects don't build computer systems, Engineers do. Engineers are specialists in specific disciplines such as Mechanical, Structural or Electrical. Architects take what they create and apply it to the living space for people to use. Architects need engineers to help them create specific parts of the whole "body". |
